Work to construct a new school building in Suffolk will begin in the summer, it has been confirmed.
Building work at Ormiston Sudbury Academy, Tudor Road, will get underway in a couple of months.
The new three-storey school building will be built in place of the current building - which dates back to the late 1960s or early 1970s - which is set to be demolished.
A new multi use games area will also be built, as well as a new sports hall block.
"The design seeks to create a landmark building for the Trust whilst remaining sensitive to the local context and including some facilities that can be used by the local community," a planning statement said.
In July 2022, the redevelopment of the school was included in the Government's school rebuilding programme after it was chosen for funding by the previous Conservative government.
Revealing the news of the summer start, South Suffolk Conservative MP James Cartlidge said: "In great news for Sudbury parents and pupils, it's been confirmed that work on Ormiston's new school building will begin this summer.
"I campaigned hard for the school's rebuild and was delighted to secure funding for its brand-new building in July 2022.
"Since then, the project has cleared crucial hurdles, including being granted planning permission earlier this year.
"Having another secondary school in Sudbury with state-of-the-art facilities will help drive educational standards in the town, boosting the future prospects of our young people in a really tangible way."
The school has said that work is to begin in July, with the first phase including the construction of the new sports centre.
The school said: "Comprehensive plans are in place to ensure that the school runs smoothly throughout the project."
