Norwich to Tilbury planning process

On 29th August 2025, National Grid applied for a Development Consent Order (DCO) for Norwich to Tilbury from the Planning Inspectorate. As Norwich to Tilbury is considered a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIP), they have to apply for planning from the Planning Inspectorate rather than the local authority. 

On the 26th September, the Planning Inspectorate accepted the application for examination which means we are now in the pre-examination stage, usually taking about 3 months.

During this time, the Examining Authority is appointed and is made up of one or more inspectors. Anyone who wants to have their say needs to register at this stage.

When you register to have your say, please state the following at the beginning of your comment:

1. If you are objecting; supporting or commenting

2. What your primary reason is for submitting a representation, for example ‘air quality’.

3. If applicable, please state if you are a statutory undertaker or a statutory consultee or an affected person (someone who is listed as a category 1 or category 2 person in the book of reference)
