Nominate a Community Champion 2024

In my time as the Member of Parliament for South Suffolk, I have met so many local people who do fantastic things for our local community.

For the second year running, I am calling for nominations from the public for my 2024 ‘Community Champion’ awards. The awards recognise those who go above and beyond in their communities, with last year’s winner Carol Moss serving as a community first responder for over two decades. From school governors to litter pickers, from parish councillors to community speed watch, from local charities to community shops, our society depends upon volunteers.

Since first being elected in 2015, I have met so many brilliant local volunteers who give up their precious free time to make a real difference to their communities. Last years nominees included parish councillors, litter pickers, community transport volunteers, charity campaigners and many more. Unfortunately, many volunteers such as these often go unappreciated for the vital work that they do. As such, it’s important for me – as the Member of Parliament – to recognise all those who go above and beyond, to support our communities through difficult times.

If you know someone who has made a real difference to your local area, please nominate them below to become this year’s Community Champion.

MP fears new housing targets could diminish local voices

New national housebuilding targets have been met with concern from a Suffolk MP, who fears they may diminish the voice of communities on where homes are built. The Labour Government announced plans at the end of July to tackle what it described as “the most acute housing crisis in living memory”.
